Preston Island is situated about 2 miles east of Culross. Originally an island, it has now been incorporated into the surrounding reclaimed land.

Preston Island contained salt pans, and Scottish salt was exported to the low countries among other place.

Coal was also mined on the island, and parts of the buildings remain.
